AMAP Elena - Finished

Woo-Hoo! Elena is finished.
Takes just short of 25 yards of floss. I use down to the last inch of each strand of floss as I stitch, and have every little waste. I had one length - 18 inches - 6 strands left over.
28 count evenweave, one over one. Weeks Dye Works - Bordeaux floss.
Finished out at approx. 8 x 12.

I added a few diamonds, a bird, the flower motifs below the heart band on the right bottom side.
Moved the letters around, and tightened them up on the left side of the main birds. Had room to add the simple sample band above them. Seems much more balanced now than the original pattern. Flipped the acorns and added them to the main birds. There are hearts oddly placed on the original pattern. Added the little diamond to the laurel wreath verses the heart.

Seems like the spacing of objects is different at the top of the pattern verses the bottom of the pattern. But the heavier bottom seems to balance the pattern. But maybe I felt the bottom wasn't balanced enough, and that was why I felt the need to add little things to fill in some gaps.
The gaps just felt oddly spaced to me on the original pattern bottom.

I'm happy with the results of the changes I've made. Glad to actually get something finished.

Elena - Nearly Done

Elena is nearly done.
One open section, and one border band on the bottom right yet to do.
I'm changing the border band to something different.
Added the year, altered the top stacked birds just slightly. Love the little flower border band on the right side. Still need to make final decisions about some small areas yet.
I think that I can see the end to this pattern now. Not sure if 25 yards of floss will be enough or not. I think it will be under 30 yards total.

Got the new floss in the mail today. Started redrawing for the text alteration in the Long Dog pattern yesterday. That is going to take a while.

Got the quilt back from the quilter on Monday, so I want to put the binding on it. Want to check into the next quilt project idea. Can't seem to find the a quilt show photo that I'm looking for.
Don't know if it's a real photo, or a digital photo I'm looking for. Can't seem to find a quilt book either. It's actually possible that the quilt book got put away, but nothing else has lately.
Going to need to stop to organize, just so I can find things.

Ordered the new Lejeune Alphabet Bible book from the Mad Sampler Book Company on Monday. Mad Sampler Book Company is a pleasure to deal with, and shipped me the book the very next morning. This is my second order from her, and I'd recommend her site to anybody at this point.

Only A Little More

Only a little more progress on Swiss Topiary. Page 12 is done and part of page 11.
Still needs more completed to get a better feel for the pattern.
Had two days that I didn't get any stitching done.
Need to finish some other projects before stitching this all the time.
Too many projects started at the moment.

Just Couldn't Resist

Just couldn't resist trying a section of the Swiss Topiary.
Beautiful free pattern.

The free pattern is in 12 sections from here.
Google 'Swiss Topiary' for photos of the completed design.

Started this one on 28 count Babbling Brook jobelan, one over one, Weeks Dye Works Deep Sea floss. Gives it a real tone on tone effect. Should finish under 8 x 12 inches.
Stitch count is 221 x 315.

And I haven't finished the other patterns yet...

Elena Sampler - Lower Half

Still working on the Elena Sampler from A Mon Ami Pierre.
Changed the side clover border. Changed the bottom right hand border to mirror the left side.
Removed two alphabet letters so that I could space the alphabet line the same. It was four stitches between rows, then one row with 6 stitches between rows, and then back to 4 stitches between rows. Changed the way the deer bodies are. The deer heads still look the same as the birds heads to me, but that's the pattern.
The little paper doll children is a nice pattern.

Want to replace on sampler band with something completely different.
At least the top is done, and the bottom is nearly completed. Just need to fill in an alphabet on both sides and it will be finished.

Still haven't done the layouts for the changes in the other patterns yet.

Elena Sampler - Half Done

Top half of the Elena Sampler is complete, and starting into the bottom half.
Changed the top right border to a new design, added the missing 'w' which then caused the branch that the bird is on to change. Not sure if the heart will go into the laurel wreath or not.
Altered some alphabet letters on the right hand side middle alphabet. For example, some of the letters were 7 tall, some were 8 tall, so I adjusted them to the same size.
I'm sure there will be a few more things before I'm done.
I think this is 15 yards of floss so far.

Elena Sampler - top half

Elena Sampler, still on the top half. Just under 10 yards of floss at this point.
Changed the house windows, and house sides. Changed some of the alphabet letters, just to please my eye. Changed the train engine. Planning to add a 'w' that is missing into the next alphabet.
Trying to catch up with the Elena Sampler SAL, but they started in January, so I've got more to do to catch up to them.

Should finish out at 8.3 x 12.

Scarlet Ribands - yes again

Scarlet Ribands, yes again.
Changed the leaves, urn and the flower on the half motif, and removed the heart designs from the squirrels. Now I'm to the point that I'm going to have to commit to changing the text or keeping the original pattern text. Need to check text spacing on the computer, so it's going to take some time to figure it out, and I still may just take the easy way out and go back to the original pattern.
** Used just under 40 yards of floss to this point.

Completed The Red and The Black

Completed 'The Red and The Black' from Prairie Moon.
Changed the C and the D positions in the pattern layout.
Changed the E to not have the 'bump' stitch.
Added a stitch to the K to give it more foot.
Changed the Z.
Omitted the obvious pattern errors that showed red in the letter frames where it shouldn't be.
Decided to omit the center red stitches from the 20 circle motifs at the bottom of the pattern.
I like them looking more like flowers, and not so harsh.

Finished out at 5 x 7 1/8, on 28 count white jobelan, one over one, dmc 310 and dmc 718.
Used about 1 1/2 skein of the black, and 1/2 skein of the red.

Because of all the black, whatever second color you choose becomes darker once surrounded by all the black.

Nice little pattern, and a break from the larger projects.
Less than a week to stitch.

The Red and The Black - The Red

The Red and The Black, after adding the red.
This photo is a little more accurate to what it looks like. A really white - white 28 count jobelan, with dmc 310 black, and dmc 718. 718 isn't the recommended red, but I felt that a darker red would blend into the black, and I wanted the red to 'pop'. This 'pops' without glowing.
I was worried that adding the red would actually make me like the pattern less, but I'm happy with the color combination.
Just needed a short break from the Long Dog patterns.

Finished watching Upstairs Downstairs. Good series, and I wanted to watch the first few episodes again. But I couldn't watch the first of the series without feeling that the characters had grown so much. Somehow, I just couldn't watch the beginning of the series again. Probably just too soon, but I'll watch it all again someday.

The Red and The Black - Just the black

From Prairie Moon, The Red and The Black.
As I stitched this, I started to think that the design was pretty in just a single color, and could probably stand up on it's own in just the black. So here is a photo showing just 'the black'.
I felt like it could have stood nicely in a red.
It should finish at about 6 x 8, so it should stitch quickly.

Multiplication Sampler - Text

Just slightly more done on the multiplication sampler. Changed the a's, b's, and d's, and adjusted some of the spacing between the text. Still more to do before it's finished.
